I hope so, new face and new sound but I wouldn't mind something similar to this and the latest EP

I really want new music! What a band. Return to Earth is a masterpiece of a song.

awww look at me, first comment on this review 43 pages ago, so enthralled!
I came to be merely whelmed by this and haven't listened in a long, long time. Came back to it today not loving it anymore, and realizing, how has it been this long already? It's kind of shocking they didn't release anything in 2021 after so many acts managed to make it work after the initial pandemic uncertainty.
I hear they were tracking in studio in Oct? I picture...early Q2 since we haven't heard anything since?

Yup such a long wait, they should have released something in 2021. Waiting this long will hurt them rather than help.

I assume they're working hard to write something better than this and Language.

A slightly heavier Language would be my ideal TC album

Like I said a while back, I think the next album will have mostly 3 to 4 minute songs. Telling from the lead single on Clairvoyant and the EP which had all short songs, I dont think it's too farfetched to think it's going to be that way. Which for the record, I'm going to be disappointed as hell if it is going to be like this.

"mars what is it u don't like about this band"
I've been around for 7 years now, I thought everyone knew my complaints about this group by now.
I love Exoplanet, everything they've done since has slowly chipped away at what made that record successful. They're a hollow shell of what they once were and failed to capitalize on the potential they might have had. I'm glad they ushered in a new era/fanbase but hearing them now always makes me a little sad. Exoplanet is amazing and they completely abandoned everything good about it.
Sometimes I feel like Intrinsic flopped badly enough for them to panic in the complete opposite direction.

People forget I used to enjoy deathcore a lot too. I still loved quite a few dxc albums and adamantly believed the genre had potential that no band had yet exploited. It eventually turned out that either I was wrong and dxc was always going to be a limited, vapid genre, or groups really just never wanted to push the envelope.
Exoplanet is perhaps as far as the genre will ever progress. Everything since then has been the same old crap. I guess Shadow of Intent are OK, but they're not unique and are essentially melodic death metal more than deathcore.

I dont get that thought process, I dont chastise a band because they suddenly stop making the music they previously made. If it's good, it's good. You may have some sort of a grudge towards the band for switching up their sound so drastically. I like new Opeth, I like old Opeth, I dont give a damn if they sound nothing alike.

But it's not good, so I don't like it lol.
I've been down this road enough times with Contortionist stans, I'm glad y'all like their new direction, but I'm not forbidden from disliking where they took it if i find it to be average at best. Their records sound dull to me nowadays, plain and simple.
And if it boils down to just always appreciating what a band does no matter what, I expect you to bump your Metanoia rating shortly.

Fair enough man, and touché. My opinions on metanoia ain't changing anytime soon heh. I guess we are in the same boat in some sort of way. I'm thinking 'how can someone possibly dislike this album' and you're mostly likely like that with metanoia, preference is a strange thing.

Really it boils down to the fact that the Contortionist changed styles, for some that was a beneficial change and for some it's not. I've known their music for years so I WANT to like what they do, but after their last EP I think it's time to call it. It's just not my thing. All I have left are ebb and flow memes.
