Boney - really? He tends to describe stuff from the gut rather than over intellectualising from my experience of watching about 20 of his reviews

It ok to admit it - you don't like him because he's popular.

I agree with doof, what premises of his do you disagree with boney? I don't agree with his opinions sometime but he usually is well organized and explains his opinions just fine to me.

I actually listened to this like 5 times already. Some songs are pretty good, though as an album it is very difficult to listen to. I think I'm giving up on this, but I still might give Birdie or Total Entertainment Forever a listen once in a while.

Leaving LA is unbearable.

Ok, a lot of his premises is a stretch, but for example it seems like he's always complaining about there not being enough variety in an album's tracklisting or an album not advancing or changing an artist's sound. He also cares too much about production and mixing for my tastes. He also doesn't really seem that preoccupied with songwriting in a lot of cases - he tends to go for style over substance to an extent. He certainly nails it a fair amount of the time but a lot of the time I find myself disagreeing or feeling like he over intellectualizes or is a bit too clinical.

Also, he hates The National.

Ultimately though it probably comes down to differences in stylistic preferences.

Basically it's just harder to take him seriously because unlike when you're reading a review on a professional site you're confronted with him in all his white melon head glory and it feels like a guy prattling on about his opinions rather than a serious discussion.

I generally like Fantano, he just doesn't seem to review the stuff I listen to.

Also, in response to JWT's comment about the length of his videos - they are definitely longer than they need to be in a lot of cases, most text reviews don't take much more than 5 minutes at most to read but his average video length is probably closer to 10. He certainly does a lot of in depth analysis but I tend to prefer his more succinct videos.

Interesting, thanks for that. Only Philly rant I found on Google was a 12 minute Bill Burr rant. This makes more sense

That Bill Burr Philly thing is a goddamn classic though. For both sides. Gotta love Bill Burr. And Philly for being Philly.

Go Eagles.
