I still like this record, but the biggest issue; too damn long! Metallica should've trimmed some of these songs and it would have sounded more cohesive as a listen for me. For their track length the songs didn't show me nearly enough of what they haven't already shown me in three minutes instead of six. If the songs are going to be that long they need to surprise me upon further listening instead of wondering whether or not I've already heard this before. Spit Out The Bone seems to get the most out of it's running time compared to the rest.

On a positive note, the choruses' are damn catchy and James is sounding great again, the guitar work is good albeit a little indulgent some spots. Hetfield is the real seller for me on this album.

It rocks.. Metallica, Beer and buds.. Dude, I get it. Sounds like each family/friend grillout I've had from the last 20 years of my life and I haven't wanted to kill myself yet. Metallica is unity.

downgrading this to a 3.5 due to the fact that i haven't had much of a desire to listen to it over the last week or so.....uh oh

The first disk is bordering a 3.5 for me. Ill get through the first disk no problems, but I'll only stay for a couple songs on the second disk and third I only listen to Lords of Summer. I think the record could be 25 minutes shorter or so. There is nothing tentative about the good songs on hardwired though.
