Somewhat but in an evolved way. I feel I could almost call this of City of Evil part 2, with the song structure and Shadows vocal range reminding me a lot of that album but more mature.

This album is basically like if you turned the second (ie: more progressive) side of City of Evil into a full album

Honestly really interested in seeing where they go next, they kinda don't have a proper sound yet in a sense.

Isn't their sound making shitty noises and pretending it's Guns N Roses?

"but you always know an A7x song when you hear it."
Agreed, and that's a skill in itself. The vocals and lead guitar work these guys put out is basically a trademark

Looking at their Sputnik discog page I would say it’s a fair guess the next album cover is a white background with the batskull in black and white

Makes sense but I hope not. I remember seeing the HttK cover and knowing it was about to be the laziest album ever

Title track came on shuffle during my commute and I enjoyed it. Vocals are grating and if I didn’t like this band from when I was a teenager I probably wouldn’t be able to overlook them
Band is pretty weird in how consistently inconsistent they are. Both of their most ambitious albums musically have terrible vocals (this and CoE). S/T and Nightmare the vocals are fine in terms of actual sound but the songwriting is unambitious/mediocre/corny depending on the song. Even on the bad albums there are usually like 10-15% of moments that rule and then the rest will be somewhere on the spectrum from mediocre to abysmal.
WTF is the only one that has good vocals and songwriting at the same time, as long as you’re ok with 00s core
They also seem to take two stabs at each sound to get it right.
STST -> WTF
COE -> This
S/T -> Nightmare

I don’t think you’re giving Nightmare enough credit. Sure, it has basic ass songs like the title track, Welcome to the Family, and Danger Line, but it’s also got some real bangers like Natural Born Killer and God Hates Us, along with Save Me, which might be their best song. So Far Away, Tonight the World Dies, Victim, and Fiction are all really solid ballads.
Nightmare might be my favorite record of theirs.

Nightmare is fine for what it is, it just isn’t my preferred style. Haven’t heard it in years but agree from what I recall that Save Me was good

City of Evil as a whole is still better than this, but this seems right to me. I hope they stick to this kind of stuff, because Hail to the King was just awful.
