guess i need a ban.
But to be fair i plan to give this another go soon. I hope I pick up something more tangible this time around other than brand new trying to write songs like kurt cobain and being obnoxiously inaccessible because... art and expectations.

"obnoxiously inaccessible"
Lol, what?

"other than brand new trying to write songs like kurt cobain and being obnoxiously inaccessible"
that is a confusing sentence.
|
| |
That's seriously what I get from the album. Mind you I love their others.
|
| |
You... You find this inaccessible? This? Daisy by Brand New?... Did we listen to the same album?

what ? impossible ?

This is notoriously regarded as being inaccessible, not an outlandish statement in the least lol

maybe inaccessible to your average listener, we're a bunch of music nerds, this aint shit by most of our standards.
|
| |
A fair point

"obnoxiously inaccessible"
let me explain this. okay so this came after devil and god, an album which stretched their fans a bit by being something a lot deeper than another pop punk release with some emo leanings. so then daisy comes out 3 years later and the fans, me at the time at least and im sure i wasnt alone, expected the band to stretch us again in similar fashion, shit would be different for sure, but still remain themselves, Brand New. While certainly stretching me, i got the sense the band jumped ship and went with shock tactics and abrasive songwriting for the stretch effect and expected evolution to their sound. And on here, it doesnt really sound like them. Just a mess, largely.

Yeah, in a site of music nerds I would have not expected to read a post calling this "inaccessible". Like, fucking OK Computer is a thousand times more "inaccessible" than this and it is still accessible, lmao.
|
| |
That sounds more like you thinking this albums just sucks because their change of style wasn't good rather than you thinking this album is "obnoxiously inaccessible". And even then this sounds like Brand New to me, so, eh.
|
| |
which brings me to why i love science fiction so much. it sounds like the sequel to devil and god, in every way. Its a challenge, and layered, but doesnt alienate me from the band like this does.
|
| |
ok computer is way more accessible than this.
|
| |
... Uh, no? How is OK Computer more accessible than this? I'd like to say more but I just don't see anything here other than, I don't know, Be Gone, is "inaccessible". It's just a weird thing to say.
|
| |
OK Computer is way more accessible than this. Way more melodic and the album is much more inviting than people make it out to be
|
| |
to alexander, i totally disagree. ok computer has melodies that even the mainstream picked up on, not just their fans, so in my mind, thats more accessible when compared to this. This album ... god, how are we comparing these two? its just abrasive, from the intent to the gritty production.
we must be listening to different albums by both bands.
thanks, slex. exactly.
|
| |
Both are accessible, but at least OK Computer is like... Doing kind of experimental stuff... This is just like, aggressive rock. I'm just confused. And considering hip-hop's popularity I doubt being melodic has a lot to do with being accessible.
