the boring lyrics and vocal melodies, the way the strings are pretty much the only interesting thing happening musically, both are two minutes over the maximum runtime they could have feasibly got to without getting boring, and so on

It's that last four song run that keeps this from being higher than 3.5 for me. It simply is too long a stretch of uneventfulness but the songs before them kinda make up for that, hence the 'great' rating.
