it's because for them, it's more than music. it's an identity, they've built their personalities and public persona around liking this kind of music, and you can't have people make fun of your persona
it's dumb, but that's how youngsters are. it's fine
edit: beside, they shouldn't be so insecure about it. obviously if you change the background music to some funky stuff it's gonna look different, imo deafheaven have great stage presence tbh

They could easily make a masterpiece if they piece together the wall-of-sound and post-rock sections more seamlessly, and drop the metal chugs. I'm sure they'll make something really great as always, most of this was excellent.

If they made their songwriting more dynamic the chugs wouldn't seem as tacked-on, which I'd like to hear. Now if they could just take more than the chugs from Weakling.
