Agreed onion, though I find something to enjoy in all the songs in We Were Dead.

Honestly think since they share the same big problem and a generally similar sound that if you take the best songs from good news and we were dead and made one consistent album out of them it'd be around a 4.5

I guess I'm a fanboy haha but I wouldn't wanna cut much of anything from either album.

We Were Dead gets a bad press but it's a top four Modest Mouse album

Way stronger than 'Good News'

"Proud of you this week ALA, this is a top 10 album for me and I agree with what you said earlier about "Teeth" being a god-tier opener"

Aww thanks man :P ya probably my favorite opener ever, love the one two punch of the more calm and peaceful Heart Cooks Brain after it too.

I'll probably get to mooon in a few hours.

Relistening to good news now. So far it's more solid than I remember, although I think bury me with it, dance hall and the devils workday as well as the interludes kill the albums momentum a lot

The view is such a jam tho holy shit

I don't really like 'The View' or 'Ocean Breathes Salty', both have this same aesthetic that feels overstuffed/over produced and melodically a little awkward/even unpleasant.

So considering most folk think they're the highlights you can see where I start having problems.

'Bukowski', 'World at Large', 'Float On', 'Bury Me With It', 'Blame it on the Tetons' are all I take from 'Good News' really.

The only Modest Mouse song I heard before jamming their first two was Float on

I like it

Bury Me With It is a great song, but maybe not the best choice for being on that album for consistency's sake, like Burn the Witch on A Moon Shaped Pool. Dance Hall, The Devil's Workday, and Satin in a Coffin could be cut yea. Interlude (Milo) is also a bit random haha but pretty harmless.

Yeah that's the best of the three I mentioned, I'd leave it on probably.

The ending to this is one of the only times were i've felt a long chill track works. I usually hate when albums do it because it seems so much like a lazy jam session but this one's so calm and has some of their best lyrics
