Negative One rages pretty hard but there's nothing too distinctive about this album. Still a step-up (just) from AHIG imo.
Also that bit where Corey's talking about crazy motherfuckers or something is embarassingly bad.

I agree he is on form, but there is far too many stone sour cleans that make it my problem

I enjoy the primitive sound they had in Vol 3

This rules. Hard. Light years ahead of All Hope is Gone, and even a big step up in comparison to Vol 3. Don't get the Sputnik hate for this one; everywhere but Sputnik seems to like it just fine. Go figure.

Where have you even looked? I know this has gotten some unreal praise from magazines but that doesn't surprise me

If you're going by mags like kerrang, metalhammer, revolver etc. it doesn't really mean anything since they're known to praise most mainstream metal unashamedly.

it has a 77 on metacritic, higher than any of their other albums
it was acclaimed pretty well everywhere except here yeah, probably just because Arcade got to it first and everyone hiveminded their way to a 3.2 average

Bingo.
And no, I'm not going off BS sources like Kerrang; Hell, I don't think I've ever read a Kerrang article in my life. The fact of the matter is that the majority of the metal community and the Slipknot fanbase received this album quite warmly. Granted, Sputnik has never been too mind to 'Knotāthe fact that their self-titled is at a 3.6 is a travesty. There's no way this one is a 3.2 either, as Skeptic and The One That Kills Us All are the only songs on here that I don't love, and they're still pretty damn solid. But oh well; Sputnik is as Sputnik does.
