didn't hear em all for the first time today, haha, just redoing old ratings. admittedly I don't think I'd listened to Amp, Orc or this since not long after this came out so I was going in pretty fresh

and yeah, do you have that demos album that leaked about a year after this, with the gibberish names? the first and sixth tracks are Noct b-sides, they're absolutely killer. better than some of this album

Right on. Same, I haven't really listened to Octahedron or this since their initial release. I actually really enjoy this album, but kinda forgot about it. Gonna jam later tonight. Oh yeah, totally forgot about that release! I think the community just called it, "B-Sides" (love the cover art for it). I'll have to revisit it.

I know it's a hard sell and most people consider Omar's solo stuff bullshit wankery, but I've listened to his compilation LP, "Telesterion" (available on Spotify) twice over the past week and a half and it's so damn enjoyable imo. Encompasses about a decade of his work with him choosing his favorite tracks from his first 19 studio albums. I highly recommend it if you or anyone is craving more Volta.

Telesterion is amazing never thought I'd find myself enjoying Ximena Sariñana so much

this has all the staying power of a di caprio girlfriend but is still one of their better albums

they're a bit on the same level but both have one really good song that salvages things (Zed here, Blacklight on s/t)

this is just the sound of Omar on autopilot and Cedric wanting absolutely nothing to do with MV anymore and it suffers immensely as a result

this > Deloused. zero replay value, but top 3 volta somehow, best take on conventional(ish) songwriting models in their discog

Yep I completely agree John.
Some of their best stuff on here.

The first half of this album is 4-4.5/5 territory, the second half of the album is 2-3/5 territory. I found the drop off steep

Yeah, it’s wildly inconsistent / bloated from memory

Admittedly haven’t returned much, maybe it’s aged well?

Yeah agreed Demon. Empty Vessels Make the Loudest Sound and Imago would genuinely get into my top 10 Mars Volta tracks. I also appreciate the electronic experimentation. The problem with this album is that the bloat and low points on this album completely dilute the potential interesting character this album could have had

Amputechture is up there, but Frances takes the biscuit

There’s a balance in knowing you need to keep the climaxes under control. Deloused is all spunk no tease
