Epping Forest has got to be the weakest track, the band said so too. Gabriel just put too many lyrics in to the song.

Not a big fan of prog rock, but damn, this one is awesome. By far my favorite progressive rock album.

If you've haven't already, you should give In the Court of the Crimson King a go! And Mirage (Camel).

This is so close to a 5 but I just couldn't ever give it that rating. It's like a 4.75, lol

It's not even the rhythms for me (as crazy as they are) but just the problem of so much octave skipping. I can do it when slowed down a bit, but up to speed it's fucking nuts

Banks is definitely underrated in terms of 70s prog keyboardists... it seems like Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman always get the spotlight over everyone else (deservedly so, granted), but to me Banks is right up there too

yeah jumpy as fuck. he's no slacker, he's easily up there. his playing is just much more understated than the front-and-center wizardry of Wakeman or Emerson

That's what makes me enjoy him more. He's still a virtuoso, but one who's much more in service of the music itself. He's the reason that most Genesis albums - whether in the prog or pop eras - have what people call that "unmistakable Genesis atmosphere"

And while Hackett helped flesh that out atmosphere too, albums like And Then There Were Three and Duke proved to me that Banks is perfectly capable of doing it on his own as well

Much agreed about Banks, he and Wakeman (though not nearly as showy as the latter) meshed with the respective sounds of their bands very well. Emerson was often much too wanky despite his talents

In conclusion: Genesis fucking rocks
