The one thing I wish pth would do is make their breakdowns last longer
the one at the end of bone marrow is pretty long

I don't know, mang. This band has 300 riffs per song but none of them sound to me like they took more than a minute to come up with.
Nice technical proficiency though.

Just played this through after not listening for a couple of monthes and am awe-struck by how good this still is...i am forced to put this ahead of fortress by a few short hairs because as an overall album i think this is a tad better...i even like the female vocals on this and i never like female vocals (though these aren't really tossed in like so many bands do today, but rather, feel like they belong)
Hopefully pth go for a concept (if they do another concept record) more along the lines of this for the next album...i feel their classic album will be their next one

they already made their classic album *wink wink*

yea this is for sure classic, considering their age, its place in the genre now, and just how ******* epic it is. imo

No doubt it's amazing considering age, but with that age there comes mistakes...the closer is way too meh to be the closer of such an epic/awesome album, the vocal layering (tho i don't mind it as much as others) can be a tad annoying at times...if they could mix a more emotionally-gripping concept like Kezia's with their new technical prowess found on Fortress (especially rody...a few more growls on the next one pretty please with coconut on top) then they really will have their classic...
I'm still for longer songs as well so that their climaxes could be even more impactful, but that's just meThis Message Edited On 08.24.08

agreed. but i still think that this album boasts plenty of technical prowess, although u often cant hear Arif and he is a manimal.

This album has a different approach to technicality really. Obviously Fortress displays a lot crazier shit, but though this a little less impressive it works a lot more This Message Edited On 08.24.08

idk but I agree. Arif is sick in that song.

Plateful is the worst song on the album...i hate the lyrics, like despise them, but i'm not a lyrics guy so i could look past that, but it just feels uninspired and lacks that last punch in the face climax that the album needed...the kill a stupid flower part just doesn't reach the heights i think a pth album closer should
The closer on fortress is also underwhelming but more in an i want more way...they need a balls to the wall closer...that's what kezia needed but didn't have and why t comes just short of classic for me

not epic in the sense of folk metal...in the sense of metal Metal a.k.a. a protest the hero white walls or the sleep of restless hours...something that pulls the whole album together, that the album has been building to throughout

Plateful was that, hence it being the only track not being told through the view of one of the 3 characters, hence it explaining the concept, and its calm ending does the album perfect justice.
