lyrically, sonically, emotionally, this is his peak to me. my favorite melodies, favorite chord progressions, he just nailed a bare bones depressive folk record to a t here.
xo is def better than either/or too. either/or is great but always found it vastly overrated

For me I feel this album often ventures into plain pretty ditty territory (Clementine, Roses, Single File) musically while the lyrics are his most transparently depressive a lot of the time - but these sort of things are where personal taste comes into it massively, they're not criticisms and this is a great album.
