post-metal has pretty much been the soundtrack to my studying recently, but I noticed apart from this album, Rosetta is really just a less-good copy of Isis.

Yes.
Rosetta is like Isis, but not as dense. There's a sense of hollowness here, especially in this album. Galilean Satellites doesn't have any hollowness thanks to the second disc and thus is easily their best album.

The hollowness of this album is pretty much what separates it from Isis, here they've actually taken steps to move away. Wake/Lift in particular could easily be a massive Isis b-side.
Also, fromtheinside, listening to Latitudes now. Pretty damn awesome.

What Potato said. Eternal Kingdom, then Salvation.
For Neurosis, anything from Souls at Zero on is fucking amazing. I'd start with Given to the Rising and then listen to either The Eye of Every Storm if you like atmosphere or Through Silver in Blood if you want it heavy.

I don't hear much of any Cult of Luna in Rosetta.
The more trudging parts in their music sound like they were lifted from Salvation.
|
| |
cant really blame them though, Salvation is like the best thing to happen to post-metal since Neurosis
