Liberation is such an amazing song, I just hate that the chorus doesn’t go for one more time before the song ends. But yeah, this album and great cold distance are peak.

Agreed, GCD and NITND are the best this band will ever get to. Had the pleasure of watching them play this album in full some years ago and it was amazing.

Side note - this band needs to start touring with two guitarists again because they are absolutely trash live atm.

Jonas is like a sweet honey (on toast or syrup on parfait or waffles or pancakes ok I'm hungry) on The Longest Year

The opener is otherworldly good, but this is a bit more laid-back than GCD to me on first listen. Definitely looking forward to getting back to this ASAP though.

It really is. It always reminded me of a more refined Harvest (Opeth)

I just cant decide what I would do, maybe just the O with the raven in it, I love this cover art though too.

Still a banger of an album. Not a 5 necessarily, but I'm honoring my teenage self to keep it like this lol. It got me through some real times if you know what I mean.

It's funny how divisive this band's discog is. It's inconsistent for most of us yet we completely disagree on which are the consistent albums lol. This is good and enjoyable but it's far from their best imho. It's by the numbers quality modern prog metal, but just that.

I feel like Katatonia is one of the most consistent bands I can think of. Outside of very early releases, they've only ever made stylistic baby-steps album to album. Which I don't have a problem with, you can really hear them honing their craft along the way.

IMO their only misstep was City Burials. That album just seems lackluster. Sky Void of Stars isn't SIGNIFICANTLY better, but it hits harder and seems to have more "gusto" in it. It's not as good as good anything prior to CB, but it is certainly better than CB.
