"how in the fuck are poison the well slit-my-wrist metalcore?"

"Could I end my life with a knife sharpened of problems" "A papercut bleeds like a cut vein" "slice paper

wrists". only had to listen to two songs to find those examples

So what i got from these bands are: tempo changes, creativity, power riffage, drumming, and vocals. definitely more interesting musically. But my problem with it is lack of song structure, and the songs really never go anywhere. i feel the same in the beginning as the end, and it's hard to distinguish between the two. whether the music is breakdown heavy, purely fast tempoed, or a ballad there is always an atmosphere of sadness and lethargy. not quite slit-my-wrist metalcore because it is so deeply emotional, but very depressing all the same. obviously, these are all generalizations and dont apply to every song by every artist, but this is what i got from the genre.

Furthermore, the musicianship is leagues ahead of bands like asking alexandria and tdwp, yet this doesnt make it any more difficult to write. in fact, old hardcore is easier because it is pure emotion while newer hardcore requires greater incite to be conducive and gain widespread appeal. thus, the genre has evolved and expanded. This alienates previous metal core fans, and asking alexandria unjustly receives superfluous 1-2 ratings by fans who immediately cast aside them as shit because of the means to make the music rather than the result.

Tomorrowistuesday made an idiotic generalization earlier, but i really do get some of the things he states. This discussion is kinda subjective though, and i've had many of those here, also about AA. So i'll just shut up.

lol no doubt it was dumb to put down sad songs because they are some of the best. I just think Asking

Alexandria's take on carefree metalcore is unique.

Give Pass The Flask by The Bled a shot. I think you might be into it. Also, for the record I'm not trying to make you stop liking this band, I like a few songs from Reckless, I find this pretty damn meh personally. But there's other core out there you might be into. Johnny Truant was a really awesome U.K core band, really catchy and fun, not much not to like.

yeah thanks man, nice suggestions. The Bled is good but vocalist is kind of a grinder lol and Johnny Truant is tits, always liked em. I've decided An Anthology Of Dead Ends trumps all though.

Yeah that album slays everything, well the 3 main Botch releases are all equally fantastic imo. Hopefuly The Bled's vocals will grow on you, gotta atleast finish the whole album.

@TomorrowIsTuesday, AA's brand of carefree take on metalcore is certainly not unique. Capture The Crown did it too, just badly. But Make Me Famous' full length LP is really like Stand Up And Scream 2. Seriously, check it out.

Ugh, Make Me Famous, now that record label assembled boy band was terrible. Have fun.

Also, Norma Jean - Bless The Martyr(blamed as being a Botch rip-off but it's so much better and original than people make it out to be)

how can your reasoning for AA's style not being unique be two examples of bands who blatantly copied them

Well it's not unique if some emo kids can just pick up some instruments and copy it
