Was very jealous of London's Tower Records. Could only sit over here in Denmark and dream of something like it. And now it's all gone MWAHAHA *cries*.

it was a huge place, with literally hundreds of people in the place at a given time......albums, books, shirts, concert tickets, listening stations (before they were everywhere), collectables, musician appearances / signings (literally, weekly).......just an awesome place where you could carouse for hours, even if you weren't going to buy anything.......and the music was blasting

agreed, my dumb ass kept buying cassettes in the early going......all new releases were like $7.99 (vinyl / cassette) in the mid to late 80's and early 90's......when cd's came out, they cost the same that they do now

The one in Tokyo is pretty cool, a little bit hipster, but it has a nice cafe with free books and decent food. They have also acoustic shows mostly.

Dude, I started listening to country as I got older and even go to karaoke bars, Everyone's a little gay! All jokes aside, I'm just messin' I've listened to Dirt too many times as well. If anything I've probably listened to Facelift the most and sea of sorrow is my favorite too. The tower records in NYC? Titan, that place was the bomb.. id buy records, rentals, VHS, casettes, tickets..everything. You can stay there and browse until the cows came home it was great! I haven't been since 05 but I remember the prices getting damn silly

I remember my one trip to Tower Records in NYC. I bought
Weezer - Weezer
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Stone Temple Pilots - Purple
all of which still hold up beautifully
|

Yeah.

the Tower & Virgin Records in New Orleans was fuckin' great
I don't think those have been around since like Hurricane Katrina though

yeah.....another memorable one, albeit much later, was Iron Maiden's Brave New World.....it had a huge cardboard cutout of the album cover in 3D......didn't even know about it until i saw it because 1) no internet yet (at least not the way we have it now, and 2) Iron Miaden was irrelevant for years
popped it in as soon as i got home (no cd player in the 86 camaro) and The Wicker Man just blew me away, instantly
