not even close to being a candidate
it may be your fav album of theirs or whatever but 1 good album, surrounded by a few kinda shitty ones, 20 years into their career is definitely not anywhere near their "prime"

Prime in their speed metal direction. Stained Class is their pinnacle.

They've had three eras, I think -- finding their sound from '74 to '78, their commercial prime from '80 to '84, and a smorgasbord of hit-and-miss experiments after that. Each has at least one career peak (Sad Wings/Stained, Screaming/Defenders, and Painkiller).

Seems like barely anyone appreciates Painkiller. It's different from Sad Wings and Stained Class (their best albums), but it's pretty awesome.

They've had like 4 or 5 eras I think. Ram It Down and Painkiller are the speed metal era, Jugulator and Demolition are the experimental era, and everything else after that save Nostradamus are the comeback era.

It's stupid that it gets hate. I don't love it like I love Sad Wings and Stained Class, but it's like third best Priest to me.

I don't think Painkiller gets that much hate dudes, at least it never used to around here. It has a high rating and numerous ball washing reviews.

That it does. I've noticed people not admiring it much though.

Dude it's so hard to decide between this and Sad Wings, this goes a lot harder but Sad Wings has their best 2 songs ever and gahhhh its so tough :/

That was tough, but I leaned towards this more. Sad Wings is like an upgraded Rocka Rolla, but this is its own CLASS.
