I HATE Chaosphere, makes my head hurt (no joke).
Catch 33, then this (AFTER DEI, of course)

I just don't enjoy music that's completely cold, soulless, and unnecessarily repetitive. Y'know how many musicians resort to using a drum machine and it sounds sort of robotic? Meshuggah have seemed to make an entire band around that. If the music doesn't sound invested, then why the fuck should I? Again, this is all opinion, but something never feels right when I listen to Meshuggah... unless it's something like DEI or perhaps Chaosphere. Not a fan of this album and I completely despise Obzen

I do give my respect to people who enjoy them though, and I can see some things that people would enjoy (the individual talents, rhythms, etc). It's just too lifeless-sounding for me to get behind

have you even read a single line of the lyrics
doesn't sound 'invested' lmao
this album alone is like a perfect sonic portrait of the descent into madness and if you actually
paid any attention to the lyrics you'd see how well the accompanying music paints the picture
for example, listen to the twitching, jumpy guitar stabs at about 1:50 in Dehumanization: at that
point in the narrative the protagonist's mind is in absolute chaos and his thoughts are racing and
swirling as he reaches his epiphany, and it's like the bouncing, stabbing guitar is the sound of his
mind tearing in different directions at once. fking brill-o
and i've already spoken about the repetition thing before, in this thread even
again, it partly comes down to lyrics (plus the rhythmic hypnoticism i mentioned earlier), if you're
mindlessly half-listening to a bunch of junz with some dude yelling seemingly nonsensical gibberish
about golden mirrors or WHATEVER LAWL then of course you're not going to be engaged
i mean do you even Neitszche bro

Brendan, do you dig Fear Factory? Because to me, they're "cold, soulless" and "robotic" but that's the point of their sound.

I can relate to Nec a lot. But i suggest you to re-jam it at some point, later, maybe you will like it. Its more about the rythm than anything else, bro

yeah i mean i was in a similar position when i first heard these dudes years and years ago, i thought this album and Nothing etc were pretty dull and one-note, ofc i hadn't bothered looking up a single line of what Jens was actually saying and the polys that i've since realised are mind-bogglingly member-enlargeningly perfect just sounded random, confusing and annoying. over the years they grew on me to the point where they're now prob my favourite band
but at least back then i didn't incessantly enter threads about the band, posting passive-aggressive comments about how much they sucked and how overrated they were and implying i had some superior insightful viewpoint and the people enjoying it were just silly tasteless plebs ecksdee l2musac!!!

"the production on Chaos is pretty rough i guess"
yeah they had limited time to make it better but I love the way it is, the bass guitar's tone on that
is one of the best I've heard, so fucking mechanical.

Did Haake tour with 'shug in support of this album or did they have HAL-9000 on the kit?
