Wow. this one blew me away even on first listen. I almost get the feeling that In Flames was trying to rip the pages from the Deftones playbook with "The Chosen Pessimist", I heard some similarities to it in "Prince". Of course, "Prince" being the superior track.

Don’t start the In Flames shit in this thread Agment.

@Hawks: I was just noting a similarity I heard while listening to this album, chillax. After hearing the album my thought process was "so THAT'S where Anders got the idea to sing like that on The Chosen Pessimist...noice."

The same could be said of earlier Deftones vocals; Chino obviously blows the pants off of Anders, but you can tell Anders wants to be Chino so badly.

I think there are many vocalists trying to be Chino. One of the best vocalists of his generation. Good lyrics and a magnificient range of vocal styles. Dude was born to sing.

For real man, I can't understand why I've been sleeping on these guys for so long, this shit's incredible.

Don't know where you're from, but I believe new Deftones LPs get hyped af in the US which can totally bum people out. But I may be wrong since I am from Europe.

Nah I'm in the US, I just never got around to Deftones until recently. I recall not being too hot on what I had heard prior to 2018, but that's obviously not how I see it now.

Man Deftones are one of the best bands around. Even Gore, arguably their worst or 2nd worst, is damn solid.
Enjoy st Agent, it’s one of my fav Deftones.

Yea, Gore was a let down. It's clear Carpenter didn't have his heart in it. The guitar parts are basic, and frankly lazy, when you know what he's capable of.

Most of his guitar parts have always been basic, especially on this album.

Phantom Bride has a great lead riff tho, and Geometric Headdress has some driving fucking rhythm due to him.
Ditto for Pittura, though I don’t really care for the song as a whole

I think what's funny is that, despite the fact that Chino's mostly known as the singer of the band, he's also arguably a better guitarist than Stephen when you take his guitar parts on albums like Saturday Night Wrist and Diamond Eyes into account

He plays the solo to Phantom Bride live too since steph can’t seem to figure it out.
I’d say they’re about even at this point. There isn’t anything in their career that’s too complex

Woah just listening to that In Flames track and i'm definetly sensing the Chino and Deftones admiration. Never listened to them tbh because melo death was always a bit too so so for me but this track is pretty neat

Btw listen to Junius - The Queens Constellation
Might contain my favorite Chino appreciation vocals and the instrumental is very spacey and icey, very much befitting the music video
PS: The synths at the end of Choosen Pessimist actually are similar to those of Junius' song lol
