the whole "megadave wrote em all" meme wasnt really a thing yet and metallica was pretty much the only band of this sort that could infiltrate "civilized society" meaning REM fans and punks and liberal arts critics alike enjoyed metallica. its impossible for guys in their 20s to imagine in a post-napster society but they were hugely respected before the black album and a ton of bands that have more kvlt points nowadays were following metallica's every move

I just think it's hilarious people get so worked up and defensive about the Megadeth vs. Metallica thing. As if they're the only two bands in the world and you need to pick a side lmao. Megadeth fans definitely sperg more tho. Megadeth being lesser-known and Dave's firing being the root cause.
