i think that their songwriting will get more well-rounded.

That relies heavily on them getting some life experience and learning from it. Heafy is one of those kids who locked himself in his room for hours to get the instant gratification of being considered a virtuoso in his 20's. However, in doing so he deprived himself of life experiences growing up, and therefor he has nothing worth saying in his lyrics.
As it is, Trivium's lyrics tend to fall into one of three categories: pseudo-angsty, pseudo-political, and pseudo-rebellious. Cliches all, and not a one of them worth listening to. I remember the first time I read the real lyrics to Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr. I immediately decided that the three or four YouTube interpretations of the song I'd seen all made more sense.

Trivium is one of those bands who change their style to capitalize on whats popular i.e. metalcore was booming massivly in '04 and '05, so naturally, Ascendancy was a metalcore album, and here we are in '06 and '07 and Thrash-ish music is coming back with Slayer's Christ Illusion, Metallica's upcoming album, Megadeth's upcoming album, Shadows Fall's Threads of Life, and so on and so forth. That, in my opionon is dispicable for a band to force a change in style to sell more records instead of having a natural porgression from style to style.

They're like Spinal Tap at that, only nowhere near as funny or listenable.

From every story I've heard about the guy, I have no reason to believe differently than what I said.

I would find it listenable if I would like it...

But I don't really like it, the overal sound isn't too bad but they fail to create some really unique riffs.

Plus their title track is one of the worst songs I have ever heard.

^^ Most peole here already know that. As far as the Trivium and Chimaira comment, 100,000 copies is pretty f**king good for realtivily new bands of an underground genre such as them (and Chimaira are good enough to deserve the fame).

Eurgh

On one version of this album they actually did a cover of 'Master Of Puppets'.

Needless to say it was one of the most horrible listening experiences of my life.

hey...i used to be a huge fan of trivium and this album, but after some time i must admit that i am liking trivium less and less. and to everyone tht asks why they are so popular: THEY AREN'T THAT POPULAR! THE CRUSADE HAS BEEN OUT FOREVER AND HAS ONLY SOLD ABOUT 100,000 COPIES!!!! Freakin chimaira sell more records than 100,000. so contrary to popular, unintelligent, uninformed belief, trivium are just not that popular. And for thrash music...the top 4 (Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, megadeth) aren't even the "real" thrash gods....KREATOR ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know that was completely off topic but oh well....ENEMY OF GOD!!!!!!!

I would suggest ritalin.
That said, moving a hundred thousand CDs given Trivium's status and genre is no small feat, but that can largely be chalked up to Roadrunner's PR team.
They're still getting all the magazine covers and crap like that, they're still in Hot Topic, they're still in Spencer's Gifts... They better enjoy their 15 minutes while they last, though. After The Crusade, only the Kerrang! subscribers who let the magazine decide their opinions for them are still standing by the band.
