i think this is just fine. they’re obviously good musicians, the songwriting just isn’t that good and they didn’t really make any of the genre fusion sound very cohesive. but their talent makes at least some of the sections fairly listenable.

at least more listenable than any opeth.

it is very accessible. I complain about the transitions being wonky and the metal sections not repeating long enough to feel fleshed out fully, but then i put on The Message and float along for twenty minutes without even realizing it smh.

Yea I like this but the things I liked the most about them on previous albums are watered down here in service of more “emotional” melodic touches and genre tourism. Just not the biggest fan of the direction.
