Yeah, Palo Santo is pretty humdrum for a single. The guitars really never resolve melodically in a meaningful way. Kinda wallpaper-y.

I was vaguely familiar with this band before this release and Palo Santo is the reason I gave them a chance so I have that song to thank in particular for helping me discover this gem (plus the vocals on that track in particular are a little more digestible for me)

this album works so well as a whole that I'm disinclined to consider the individual strengths of each song on their own
Palo Santo might be a "weaker" track but as others have said here, the transitions into and out of that track flow very well (plus it says the line)

"not sure how to rank the album (still) even after a decent handful of spins, but I'm almost certain No Gospel is tops and Bodega Head is an easy pick for last place"
Tentatively agree with this. Not sure if Bodega Head is dead last but I think Cemetery Lights was a way way better closer. This album deserved a big payoff and Bodega Head just kinda lingers.

when i have skipped palo i have gotten more out of this ngl. its transitionary power has not done anything to mitigate how out of place that hail the sun hook is here. usually i dont skip it but i cannot lie and say the album is not more enjoyable for me when i do
i like bodega head as a closer but more so because it pairs up well with wind song which i love

fair enough haha, it does stick out stylistically and not necessarily in a good way (which I attribute to it being written much earlier than the other tracks)
No Gospel as a weak track is unfathomable to me though

Why don't people like Palo Santo's chorus, cuz he not shrieking the whole thang?

I don't like the chorus cause I simply don't like his singing there, and I don't think it fits the song too well. Notice how that's the only song I say I don't like the whole way even though there are multiple songs where he not shrieking the whole thang

The chorus is fine and Palo Santo in general slaps

Bodega Head as the weakest is a wild take, second for me behind No Gospel. Transfiguration and Leviathan are the other standouts imo
Obv love the whole thing tho

Leviathan is probably my favorite here, No Gospel is close

That solo fucking rips and that final chord progression has been stuck in my head for days. I love that guitar tone sm

Blood Moon, Palo Santo, Heat Death and No Gospel for me. Blood Moon kicks it off perfectly and gets me hyped. Then the lead riff in Palo Santo with the bouncy drums, it just feels so satisfying. Have to agree about Bodega Head being the weakest track though, just doesn't fit the album vibe overall.
