It's what that boy asks in Swedish at the end of Livets trädgård.

Ah! The best thing is that it could have been a regular comment for you. You're that prophetic I guess.

I'm a recent (if a little old at 65) Opeth convert, so not really into comparison debates. I like this LP BUT, does anyone else have shocking surface noise on the picture disc version? It starts just before the music starts and remains throughout, sounds like the wind in the background. Or, am I missing something and perhaps it's meant to be there? Just want to know if I should return for a different copy.

Damn someone with physical copy help Trevor here! Why sudden interest on Opeth? Interest on prog rock, or really a 65 DM dude? Compare to the sound digitally, I don't know...this has a lot of background sounds.

Hi Trevor, don't have the album and I can't find anyone with a similar experience. Definitely not meant to be there.
If you're trolling, I applaud.

Discogs usually has lots of discussion on these kinds of things.
Just look for your version and see whether people experience the same thing:

Picture discs sadly are always like that, "wind in the background" is a solid descripition. I own the black LP (in Swedish) and I don't have major problems with it. It clips a bit in places but my stylus by now is dying so I that's probably on my end. Otherwise it seems (only ripped it today so I haven't listened properly yet) definitely better than the pretty bad CD/Spotify master, though it still has some saturation problems (but less than Sorceress thankfully) but well that's Nuclear Blast so I'm not surprised.
(sorry for the rushed post, I'm on my phone)

Just my two cents; Opeth was once a band that you couldn't even compare to much and I feel now they've become an aping of classic prog-rock.
I've given this a good run through and I feel like Akerfeldt is just lazy now. Sorceress was a step back in the right direction but this is just the same old "I wanna play 60's-70's prog-rock. And that mellotron is just so annoying, like they run out of ideas and play circus music as a bridge to another idea.

I'm not hearing much circus music in this one. I guess there's "Famine" from Heritage.

Me neither. Sorceress is their absolute worst to me, this is their best record in years.

I guess, but I don't find this or PC to be that much better than Sorceress overall. Heritage is by far the best of these past four; these three are mostly very good, but have their share of flaws.
This is best because there's the most abundance of ideas, and the album is eclectic and unpredictable without being all-over-the-place, and with great production.

Heritage is the best one of their prog years. Agreed. It's one of my fave Opeth albums.
I think this is a lot better than Sorceress though, that one felt stale, through the motions, like they were bored or unenthusiastic about it. PC has Eternal Rains and River which are amazing, but the rest didn't really do much for me.

Moon Above, Voice of Treason, and Faith in Others are excellent too. Sorceress has a lot of good ideas but it doesn't all come together so often. But Will o the Wisp, Sorceress 2, A Fleeting Glance, and The Wild Flowers aside from those verses are highlights of their prog era. The Seventh Sojourn is a neat middle eastern prog jam too.

Yeah it's still a 3.0 for me. I think A Fleeting Glance is my fave, Will O The Wisp and The Wilde Flowers contain some nice moments, agreed. But like we've discussed that production makes those few great moments suffer too. Very unfortunate.
Super happy about this one though, they have so many new ideas here and most of them work beautifully. Many of these tracks have been stuck in my head for a week now. Good sign! What's your fave here Talons?

Ingen Sanning Är Allas / Universal Truth is my #1 and Kontinuerlig Drift / Continuum or Minnets Ya / Lovelorn Crime would be next best.

My picks as well Talons. My top 3. Plus the singles are amazing here too, they work so much better in context of the album.

Can we agree that Charlatan is pretty awesome?

the only reason people like this record more than their last two is the duration of time from when they screamed is longer, and people can accept the change easier. They had no expectation of screaming, and now we can enjoy the music without the air of "will Opeth return to their roots?"
