I'm definitely preferring this to Sleep Well Beast (the only other National album I've heard)

idk Rowan the music video version is much more impactful for me. It's a shame they took off the gorgeous piano on this version

This seems to be settling in the low 4's to me, between a 4.1 and 4.3. It's not the best National album but it's still gorgeous and I love the lyrics.

finally got around to this and it's gorgeous at the very least. i love the electronic flourishes and the vocal collabs.

first listen's highlights were "not in kansas", "where is her head", "oblivions", and "hey rosey". the closer is also pleasant. "rylan" kinda drifted by for me and i guess the weak links would be "hairpin turns" and "dust swirls in strange light".

but it's a national album so...plenty of time to unpack.

Kansas grew on me a tad but it's among the weakest here. So Far, So Fast is so much better and would have worked really well coming off "Where Is Her Head?"

Glad you dig this neek, probably the best way to appreciate this is to have little to no expectation for it as you have.

Having listened upwards of 10 times now this has basically grown to a 4 but I’m holding on bumping my official rating till I confidently feel that way for a few listens.

Am I the only one that thinks 'Where Is Her Head' is actually one of the worst here? It's so redundant/repetitive and the vocal melody is irritating. I'd take Kansas over that song tbh. My favorite stretch is from Quiet Light --> Pull of You, those 4 songs all rule. I'm finding that the rest of the album slows down a bit for me - almost drags at times - although Rylan is an absolute gem. I'm not ready to admit this is anything lower than what I have it scored at currently although my heart knows it's only because I've personally identified with a lot of the lyrics.
