This album is frustrating. I absolutely love parts of it, mainly the second half and all of Chris’ synth/electronic work, but the lyrics are dull and uninspired at many points and it seems like Spencer is actively trying to not scream even when it fits the music. First half of the album ranges from meh-really good and the back half is consistently great aside from the closer. Maybe it’ll grow with more time or maybe I’ll fucking hateit after a while. I’m just happy these guys are even around doing anything in 2018. Hoping that if there is a next album it’ll be more focused and less...album by comity, and please get a less douchey producer for the next album. Overall yeah, this album is a letdown, but I’m not even sure what I expected. I’m very conflicted.

It Has to Start Somewhere has grown on me, but man none of the others that I thought were boring have grown on me at all

Well as you can see I only really like about half the album. They had some great ideas but ultimately this fell flat, I dunno why they would ever think their fanbase would be happy with conventional rock songs. I gues we also have to remember that Underoath was associated with the “scene” where image was always more important than the music for many fans, so people fawning over this probably hardly care about the reasons Underoath was actually good

It feels kinda like Alexisonfire later stuff if you added some electronic elements. Reminds me of how I felt about OCYC at first

I dunno I don’t see much of a comparison there tbh

OCYC is way better than this my friend, though I sorta see the comparison, if only slightly. Though Dallas Green is undoubtedly a better vocalist than Spencer, at least singing wise.

If that mean that the next Underoath release is like Dog’s Blood then we should be excited

Weird comparison but OCYC is way better than this.

I still haven’t listened to Dogs Blood despite the fact that I love AOF. Need to make a note to get on that.

I've heard this twice, and perhaps it deserves a 3.1 from me or so

a lot of the songs actually have some good parts tbh, but it's like you can all the producers/writers had to make sure those moments were kept to minimum

My inner middle-school self who thought they were one of the best bands a decade ago would give this a 9/10. Unfortunately, my present-day self is more cynical (and has heard hundreds of better bands) and can't allow a chorus like "U GAWT THE BEST OF MAAIIII" to slide.

This album does not deserve its own artwork.
