'Go in with an open mind, and don't expect a Storm of the Light's Bane pt. II'
See, I can't do that. Under the label of Dissection I expect the same greatness as their previous works. To put forth anything lesser is to squander their brand

Changing the style is fine...as long as the result is good.

Changing the style is great. But Sotrm of the light's bane is a masterpiece, a landmark album, a classic and a reference ('album x sounds like a new sotlb').
Reinkaos will neve rbe that in it's genre and rightfully so..it didn't create anything, it didn't set a landmark. It's an OKish album with very little replay value. Nobody compares new released albums to Reinkaos or has Reinkaos in any discussion about genre classics.
These are the good reasons why it's sad to have such an album released by Dissection, an incredibly steep decline in quality. It's not the fact that it has a different style.

Hmm, well, I do think it has soooo much replay value though. Spin it very regularly still.
Plus my enjoyment of an album has nothing to do with that album's potential effect on other albums. I solely am interested in whether it has an impact on me, not how influential it is/will become/was.

I agree that an album can be a masterpiece without a wider audience taking notice. But in the case of Dissection this difference in reception is perfectly congruent with the difference in quality and thus aptly illustrates disappointment with Reinkaos...

''difference in reception is perfectly congruent with the difference in quality''
Hmm, well, I don't agree with that. There's lots of people who don't feel this difference in quality is as big as others make it out to be, me included. Plus quality of music is almost entirely subjective, so this statement might be true for you, but it's not a fact at all, it can't be. It'll always be an opinion.
I do agree that many people are disappointed with it though, that's undeniable.

No need for sorries, you're among friends.
Behind every work of art lies an uncommitted crime.

In the case of Reinkaos, the crime was rather very committed... ;)
