Album Rating: 2.5 | Sound Off

Their first album was pretty good and Happiness had a few good tracks, same thing with AS as well. Still haven't listened to s/t and DBM2 yet, though I'm not looking forward to the latter.

I don't see how anyone could say WISRO is their best.. its consistently the lowest rated.

Best would be between Self-titled or DTBM.

Also for those that don't like Tilian's vocals there is always Secret Band.

royal ocean has some terrible production and the band doesn't sound like they're playing with each other. plus jonny is constantyly out of key

Eh. I can see how this has a higher average since its still "newish". I dunno I liked this more than Acceptance Speech but I love me poppy hooks.

it feels emotionally engaged and connected as opposed to this sugary synthesized bullshit

swan and bassist arent horrible on this (or ever) but the songwriting and vocal performances simply cannot he ignored

Jon Mess has a solid performance here and Tillian has some decent moments

Yeah which is why I brought up DTBM or S/T which are both emotionally engaging and a bit more serious for the most part.

I can appreciate WISIRO but those 2 are much more polished and actually have coherent lyrics for DGD records.

Jon's voice sounds as good as it ever has. But I agree with malleus for the most part

I think DBMII was peak Mess. His interplay with Jonny was perfect there. He's been great on the last two albums, but not nearly as well-integrated as he once was.

And I think Kurt's albums had the most emotion. He really seemed like he was pouring himself into the music. DBM is pretty emotionally charged too but to a lesser extent given there's no real lyrics being sung.

jonny mailed it in on dbm2 and mess sounded too thin

I can't get behind that. There's too many times where Jonny and mess are tagteaming like a motherfucker they compliment each other's parts really well.

thats an insanely false statement. dbm and wisiro are the 2 most emotionally charged dgd releases. and i can hear lots of lyrics being sung. lol

DBM is my fav dgd record, ftr, so don't think I'm trashing it. Just that knowing Jonny just didn't have lyrics makes it feel less personal, I think.

He just made shit up on the spot. Which I really like and think sounds wonderful but Kurt seemed to put more effort into his vocals, for better or worse.
