it's pretty good after the first listen, but probably worse than the seer and to be kind. "when will i return" is fortunately by far the worst song

I don't know how I feel about reworking "Bring The Sun" into "The Glowing Man". This descending thunderous cycle of punches loses a lot of its flair when you hear it AGAIN

"People Like Us" and "Finally, Piece" suddenly hark back to the "White Light" era a bit. Nice.

definitely has the neofolk White Light vibe. Even if When Will I Return is the worst track, it's an emotionally powerful track of overcoming hopeless odds against an unwanted force. Don't know how I feel how the intro to The Glowing Man yet, but as a whole, the track dominates and is probably the heaviest track they've ever done. Cloud of Unknowing is absolutely remarkable.

Yeah, that beat is sick as hell, and the cacophonous choir escalation at the end is chilling

I don't. But it is the most stripped down sonically.

I must have written it a few times already, the problem with return is that it's such a ripoff of previous Swans songs (the seer returns and bring the sun)

What about the title track?

It's a shame they repeat themselves on it as well, but at least they're aware of it there.

Frankie M and title track are without a doubt the best songs on the new one. Really hoping so much that the rest will grow on me.
|

they're the worst ones though (except for the short songs)

The World Looks Red/The World Looks Black and Frankie de best songs

This and the new album are about even for me. It's great stuff and an entertaining listen, but Swans have never been more than that for me. It feels like a chore going back and re-listening to most of their material.
