I think this is the first time where I have preferred almost all the slower styled songs over the upbeat ones on an Anberlin album.

That's a surprise, I thought you would have loved 'We Are Destroyer'

Also I think 'Stranger Ways' might be my favorite song off here. Even if I wish it had a climactic bridge or whatever, that buildup is incredibly good.

I do really like Destroyer (especially the chorus), but Armageddon, Atonement (especially love that one), and Harbringer are all gorgeous.

Velvet's chorus, on the other hand, is kind of lacking, which is a bummer since the intro (which I'm pretty sure is the exact same progression) without the singing sounds really cool.

Still kind of hate Dissenter, tho. I finally gave up on it and completely took it out of my winamp library, ha ha.

I like the vibe of Stranger Ways, too. The first minute and a half or so is my favorite, but I find it a little less appealing when the song kicks in fully after that. It might be the electronic elements they throw in . It almost feels more like random noises than part of the actual song.

Agreed with you on Velvet and Dissenter. Well Dissenter is OK but it never really did fit the album. Someone said somewhere the album works just as well if you replace it with 'Dead American' from Devotion so I might end up trying that.

And yeah I can see that. I'm not too high on Armageddon, not that it's a bad song but it never really worked for me. But Atonement is really pretty, and Harbinger is nice.

And yeah like up until the second chorus, 'Stranger Ways' is basically perfect for me. I don't agree with you on the "random noises" part, since I really like what they did musically. I still think it's sorely in need of a bridge, but the first 3 minutes are on another level.

I think Armageddon is actually becoming one of my favorites. It has a great groove, and I dig the way it gradually builds rather than doing the typical verse-chorus-bridge format.

Dissenter is really the only song that I'm not too crazy about, I've listened to this a fair amount and that song still feels jarring compared to the rest of the album. It really just stands out because the rest of the album is such a consistent, smooth listen for me.

One of the parts I'm talking comes in right around 1 38 or so of Stranger Ways. It's just this repeated 'thing' in the background. I don't know why, but it kind of irks me. The other part is the weird synth part after about 3 min or so. They just kind of take me out of the song a little bit when I hear them. They don't always register when I listen to the song, but it's a pretty tiny complaint when I do pick up on them.

It took a few times with Armageddon before it really caught my attention. It has this really nice, relaxed atmosphere with it. Atonement was the only song that stood out to me the first few times I heard this, and I still really enjoy it after I warmed up to (most) of the others.

Armageddon is really great. Agreed about Dissenter killing the flow, it's clear they shoved that track in there to prove they canz stil rawks!

Yeah I don't care too much about Dissenter, though I still like it. We Are Destroyer is still my favorite track off of this though.

We Are Destroyer is alright but it's very formulaic even for them. Almost all of their other openers have

been better IMO besides We Owe This To Ourselves - that song blows.

I kinda like We Owe This to Ourselves, but yeah it's definitely their weakest opener.

I get why We Are Destroyer opens this album though...it's one of the few tracks with enough energy to pull it off. The majority of this record is low to mid tempo, and if they opened with Atonement or something it would have just set up We Are Destroyer to stick out like a sore thumb.

And Dissenter already does that.

I agree with the Dissenter being a sore thumb on this album. When I first heard it I really loved it, but now I feel like it's kind of there for the sake of being an upbeat, energetic song.

Yeah it's my least favorite track here because it exists solely to change the pace

Hm I feel the same way as ya'll apparently. Dissenter is good but unnecessary. Less distortion and I would like it better.

"We Owe This To OUrselves blows"

agreed on that too lol
