Definitely my favorite Agalloch album. The songwriting, while still being exceptionally experimental, is unlike any that they have ever showcased on any other record.

Pale Folklore and The Mantle are extremely close behind though

it's not that i want more straightforward metal though. i think maybe this style of black metal isn't for me for the most part.

i only like a select few folk/bm bands.

It's not really black metal at all. Just listen to it, it's impossible to describe. Falling Snow is the best track IMO.

the albums i've listened to by them seem primarily black metal and folk to me.

i do love neo-folk but i prefer some super grimy black metal a la LLN. to me this doesn't quite cut it but i'd definitely be interested in just their folk influences on its own. i am pretty particular when it comes to neo-folk.

fyi all the samples are taken from the original Wicker Man, with christopher lee as the antagonist. i have not personally seen it, but it is supposed to be a phenomenal movie. it barely shares similarity to the hilarious nicholas cage one
