In response to the STP convo that happened earlier: I like to consider them the pitstop band between AiC and Pearl Jam. Their early work essentially sounds like a mixture of both bands; even Scott Weiland's vocals share some similarities with both Eddie Vedder and Layne Staley (but mainly Eddie). Core's actually one of my favorite non-Big 4 releases in grunge... I just love how it mixes a sinister murky sound with some very genuine, heartfelt moments

RE: STP
The riffing on Core is AIC-lite and the Weiland has always been crucified as the original Vedder ripoff, even though technically it's possible that Vedder ripped Weiland off and got famous first. STP was my gateway into Grunge so I've always had a soft spot for them.

I prefer their more psychedelic stuff from Tiny Music and Purple. Core is very...unsubtle.
