Lopez is my all time fav, Wiz was spot on. He had that innate feeling/talent for drumming

Yeah Pleb, love the jazz influences in his playing.

His performance on Watershed blew me away tbqh. I've seen him live perform a bunch of these songs but Lopez live was just so much more engaging. Just a preference. Best drummer in the world is still Danny Carey, end of discussion.

Nope lets start a new one now, one discussing how Axe is better than Carey on any Tool album.

I've been drumming for a few years now and imo the drumming on here's amazing, probably better than on Watershed
which was also good but pretty messy sounding

Ex. on Porcelain Heart one section the drumming just goes insane and off tempo for no reason, and while it was funny and weird and interesting completely ruined the mood of it, stuff like that.
Other times the drumming just keeps the beat while still being interesting of course, and obviously has its impressive moments too. But here it fits much better with the musical style imo

Now you're just being stupid ; ).

Damn, I loved how he pulled that off. Not a great example if you're being subjective. It's all taste and I would never consider that messy at all. Go listen to some old school dm from the 80s/ early 90s. Now that's what I would call messy.

Really!? I thought it was universally agreed that Axenrot stepped up his game big time on here compared to his performance on Watershed which was good but nowhere near as incredible as it is on this album. I don't really care about comparing who was better live (I haven't seen either live) all I know is the drumming on here is some of the best I've ever heard and is miles ahead of what he did on Watershed.
It's clear we have very different preferences when comes to drumming so I won't go into who my favourite drummers are, although I will say Carey certainly isn't one of them.
