All the songs on here sound MUCH better live tbh.

This is a grower, definitely for people who just dont like Prog-Rock or Jazz Fusion. I can see why fans hate, it especially the metal-heads. The album traded away the raw intensity for a more experimental agenda, but if given the time this album proves to be really great. I personally love it, but thats just me.

I love Prog Rock and Ive given this a huge amount of time to grow on me. But the reason to why i don't like it has nothing to do with Opeth's earlier albums, i just find this to be quite boring and somehow disjointed. I was stoked when i heard that Åkerfeldt would change the sound to a kinda 70:s Proggy one, too bad he couldn't pull it off 100%

This, Damnation, Ghost Revs, and BWP are the only Opeth albums that i care about anymore.

Dude you're missing out so much.
|
| |
their first 2 albums are boring as shit and i tend to forget that they even exist, Watershed is like a less interesting version of Ghost Revs, and everything else is good but i never feel like listening to them.
|

You're forgetting their best album, MAYH.

Yeah i don't care too much for Orchid and Morningrise, and i agree that Watershed is like a downgraded Ghost Reveries (and that's still good) but My Arms, Your Hearse and Still Life are easily masterpieces from this band.
