That's a great point. If i I were to recatagorize him as hip hop/plunderfonics (which he mostly is), I'd put goldfrapp, anon tobin amd portishead up there. He's not as trippy

Amon Tobin is a particularly great and noteworthy example of an artist that conveyed several of the prominent styles that were exchanging influence around the time. Trip Hop, D&B, Breaks, Nu Jazz etc

Yeah this is for sure some bit trip hop, but it's not trying to do what most trip hop does. It's 100% more just a hip hop record

Yeah. Trip Hop is an extremely diverse genre and not everything needs to meet all potential criteria to have that Trip Hop sound but this doesnt have the spacey vocals, the expansive genre mashups, or the live band/instrument components that really distinguished trip hop from other associated genres. Its mostly just got the hip hop part lol.
