I haven't went to any Underoath concerts, so I wouldn't know anything about their stage performances. If you you don't think they're overly preachy, then cool, this album works for you.
How about instead of saying they're preachy when all of the evidence of their lyrics is that they aren't, you explain how.
My only question in my original post was how they attained such hype.
Ridiculous live shows when they first started out, then a really well placed pop-core release, then a really well placed return to a heavier sound.
Epic marketting.
Popular image for a while.
Relateable lyrics.
Great production.
Catchy hooks, epic vocals.

Great witchxrapist, you've again tried to prove something so irrefutable (opinions) wrong. Stop trying to prove a subjective experience incorrect. If you don't think they're preachy, then have a fuckin' party, otherwise leave me alone about it

Explain how their lyrics are preachy, that's all I'm asking. You seem completely ignorant to their actual lyrical content.
And explain to me how those August Burns Red lyrics aren't preachy while you're at it.

Very popular Underoath song:
I thought you'd come back
So I prayed
The romance has been dead for years
The romance is dead! The romance is dead! Won't you come back?
So I prayed
Relief, support never came
Memories carry me to the days of when we were kids
And angels came and watched us play
Close my eyes just for tonight
The sun still sleeps and when she awakes
A movie that plays in my mind
Remembering you helps me survive
Every day a re-run of the next
I promised to stay by your side
But that all would change
I can't complain, another victim of the game
Close my eyes just for tonight
The sun still sleeps and when she wakes
Maybe love will find us again
For there is always tomorrow
Sincerely till the end my friend
Close my eyes just for tonight
The sun still sleeps and when she wakes
Very popular ABR song:
Your due date is up.
Don't make comments on irrelevant subjects.
There is a man who seeks his own happiness,
and his smile is warmer than five of yours.
You keep singing to a tasteless song.
He whistles to a song of hope.
A night of foolish chatter is easily replaced by a couple bold statements.
Few words are gold, and living is offensive in itself.
Your shallow ideals are about as useless as the gnats in my eyes.
Wake up.
Put your heart where your mouth is.
again, which lyrics are preachier?

ive seen underoath 5 times now and they're much better about it now but the first couple times, the lull between each song was like an individual prayer. it doesn't bother me, i'm a christian myself. and if you reread my comments, i'm not bashing them for it. i was just trying to point out that i can see both sides of the coin. but lol@posting the lyrics for like 6 separate songs anyway that was pretty cool of you

I don't feel like digging through lyric sites for the two bands' lyrics just so I can argue further with someone who won't even acknowledge my opinion. So, no, I will not do that.
underoath got as big as they did from being a band for years, releasing good albums, touring non stop, progressing each time until now in my honest opinion but at least they are doing something new, they've had some controversy that's helped here and there and no one really does it better in some senses. so thats why they have so much hype.
Oh, I wasn't asking why they've in general gotten so popular (sorry if it came off like that). I was mostly curious as to why there is so much hype and fanboyism over this album. I don't think it's bad, though, neither do I think it's good.

I just provided two ABR songs lyrics, and provided a few Underoath song's lyrics.
And this isn't a matter of opinion dude. August Burns Red's lyrics are straight up preaching Christianity, while Underoath's just reference Christianity in relation to the vocalists' personal lives.
Saying "it's my opinion" won't suddenly make, "I hate myself God help me," preachier than, "You should look in the mirror, you hypocrite, find Christ."

witchxrapist: Let me try to spell it out for you last time. I'm not arguing whether they're
preachy or not. If you don't think they are, I DON'T CARE. You wouldn't be wrong, because quite
frankly this is all based off subjectivity. I personally thought they were a bit preachy, and I can
feel that because I have the ability to construct opinions.

Their lyrical content is not your opinion.
August Burns Red preaches, Underoath doesn't really.

underoath is preachy...and when i saw them they had a nearly 5 min prayer. From seeing both underoath and abr live...underoath def takes the cake...and if you include previous albums...their lyrics are more "preachy". However...I don't give a fuck if some one is preachy or not....if their music is good, then it's good.

It's not whether their previous albums were good or not - for me it's the fact that this album's tone is more mature and not like a really heavy Anberline album with lame pop punk elements.

Yeah, the prayer part that they had during shows for a short period of time was preachy, but their only album that's preachy lyrically is still Act Of Depression.
Read their lyrics kthxbai.

wow, just wow witchxrapist.
Wow what? That I realize that merely mentioning ones religion isn't "preaching"?
That I actually bring up valid points and lyrical exerpts rather than repeating "THAT'S MY OPINION" on a topic that's about the subject of text?
