never really got the opeth comparisons that much honestly. katatonia always have been their own band. they have been around longer than opeth and i honestly find it kind of disrespectful to them to always see them compared to opeth just because they are the more famous band.

BMD really reminds me of Orchid. Also some of their clean passages and clean vocals remind me of Opeth a lot. Especially Idle Blood. Song literally sounds like it was written by Mike

I hit my 96969th scrobble today and it was Onward Into Battle, bless.
And I don't know, DEK was a letdown for me at first and I would cherry pick like 3-4 songs that I liked if I went back to it at all. But at some point after Fall of Hearts came out I went into a big Katatonia phase again and started going back to that album more and letting it play through and it really grew on me, just a beautiful album. Dead Letters goes harrrrrd. Just to resurrect a year old discussion.

Probably their pinnacle for me. Dead End Kings was good, but a little bland, and nothing since has ever really matched this. Similarly, TGCD is a close second to this for me, but everything before that is iffy, like the band hadn't reached their potential yet.
