first track blew me away. second track sounded like a carbon copy of the first track which disappointed me. third track is a little underwhelming. haven't got further than that yet.

so the new album does what it does REALLY well... it just doesn't do a whole lot else.

I'm really scared to listen to the new album :/

it's hard to know what to think of it. it's so well-made and beautiful. but it's so predictable. as far as post-rock albums go, it's excellent. as far as mono albums go... it's perhaps not so great. probably just because it repeats itself a lot. each song is magnificent, but there's not a whole lot of point listening to them all when you can just listen to one of them and basically get the whole experience in one. im listening to walking cloud for the first time right now, and it's impressing me a lot more than the new one.

i'm really disappointed with it, it does just about nothing any other hollywood soundtrack doesn't already do

sure it's not unique as far as hollywood soundtracks go, and doesn't have a lot of variety, but it's definitely not a bad album. 2/5 seems a bit harsh.

well i'm not keen on soundtracks at all and since it sounds just like one for me the 2/5 is justified considering how well they balanced things before
i can honestly never envision a time where i'd ever want to listen to that again

fair enough. i just listened to walking cloud and instantly bought it. much more excited to relisten to that than i am the new one

you are there is their peak album imo. it's the perfect balance of everything they've ever done - the sombre moment sin the (kind of) title track, the crushing heaviness of yearning, the soul-stirring melodies of the flames beyond the cold mountain, the orchestra shining in moonlight, it just did everything right. this one was a little bloated but still superb. the new album... better luck next time, mono. i cannot imagine sitting through those songs live.

can't wait for reviews of the new one. i imagine it will be pretty divisive. noctus, you and eli should both write a review for it. give both viewpoints.

i'll likely be writing a review.

you'd have to listen to it again first though :P
i've deleted it now, and will wait until it comes out and i buy it before i listen to it again. i like to do that with leaks. i might write a review at some point but it would be a little while after release.

oh yeah, i'll be waiting for a better quality version before i listen again. i always listen to something i review at least 3 times, at the very least. :]

really need to hear the new album and conduct an interview with the band. still love every second of this, but ashes is my favourite.
