Other than this which is their top album obviously, Self-titled, Saturday Night Wrist and Around the Fur all are better than DE. Looks like others agree too ;) Still the average rating for DE makes me lol

DE was too polished, there was no grit, no emotion just shiny shiny music. Whereas albums like this have something else to them.

I agree that DE was very polished, but I thought that worked in its favor. It was pretty much a culmination and mixture of all their previous sounds/aesthetics in just a streamlined fashion. so, the crystal-clean, shiny production was just part of the theme.
to me at least. I listened to Royal, Butcher and Prince today on my commute home and was reminded of why those are my three favorites from that album.
but yeah, this is still my favorite non-hip hop album ever. always will be.

Instrumentally, I think the production worked, but I don't think it did any favours for Chino's vocals. Totally agree on Royal btw.
