other than the highlights it’s aimless as hell
|

^^^ that’s v true. the highlights tho
|
| |
Yeah, aimless is a pretty apt descriptor for this, *especially* after Man of Metropolis. Still solid overall, but if ever an album could have used a judicious round of editing this is it.

Probably 5/5 from me and would eclipse C&L for his best, if that was the track listing.

Prairie Fire and The Blackhawk War are great instrumental/interlude songs
Also Decatur rips

I've never been big on Blackhawk War. Prairie Fire and Decatur are great yea
I reviewed the album's track list, and looking at Ryus's new one again, he basically just took the first 2/3 of the album and cut the interludes. I don't think removing Mary Todd, Whoo-Hoo (only 7 seconds), River Valley Region, and Prairie Fire/Drones makes the album any better. Ideally those interludes could've just been outros and part of the real song that preceded each one. The last third of this album could've been cleaned up tho, as it starts to drag after Predatory Wasp.

"Come On Feel the Illinoise" has grown on me so much since I first heard this album a few months ago. Thought it was an overblown crock initially but when it clicked, hoo boy did it click

Sufjan does no wrong.

actually he does, but when he hits it it's a freaking home run
too bad it never lasts the duration of a whole album
|
| |
^^^^^^
|
| |
This is his most consistent though, I think. His other albums are so all over in terms of quality, that I don’t even really like them enough to revisit. (Which is weird considering the length)

Even with the rest belated, everything is antiquated
