"its popularity hasnt really waned"
Compared to the Myspace era when deathcore was at it's peak in popularity, yes, it definitely has.
"the music is getting better."
The bands who were around in the Myspace era who are still making music are not putting out anything good anymore (SS, Whitechapel, Oceano, Winds of Plague, etc). I'll admit I've seen a few newer bands doing a decent job trying to keep it alive (Make Them Suffer, Shadow of Intent, Infant Annihilator), but even these bands aren't really doing anything groundbreaking. The only thing that could have saved the genre was if deathcore had went in the experimental/proggy direction, such as with the album Exoplanet. But The Contortionist broke our hearts, and no one wanted follow in that album's footsteps.

honestly the single biggest appeal of this album for me is the vocals, but i get why some people dislike his vox
without mitch i probably wouldn't bother at all

"(SS, Whitechapel, Oceano, Winds of Plague, etc)."
these bands were never good in the first place though. and yeah, theres not a lot of innovative shit out there, but its gotten to the point where bands are finally learning how to write a song.

I agree with this, but I think it's a little too late. Most people I know and including myself just kind of left this shit behind because it didn't go anywhere for several years. A lot of the old deathcore kids are grown up now and they just don't care about this kind of music anymore.

still waiting on you to tell me how whitechapel was more popular in 2007 than they are today

Regardless of whether Whitechapel was ever "good" or not, people were crazy about them back in the day, especially after The Somatic Defilement came out. Everyone knows they suck now.

They have such a massive audience now compared to ten years ago, I don't get the argument

I feel like the 2007 show would have more people, but I've also never seen them live and I don't plan on it.
