Pikazilla how about you throw on some Sigur Ros, Godspeed and Jakob for the average Ed sheeran listener and see how they like it. “When are they gonna sing?” 🤪

It’s not that they’re not accessible. They are for mildly underground music listeners but not for the painfully average listener.

painfully average music for the painstakingly non-average gottem
Sigur Ros are practically a household name too. I heard the bracket album (and this) for the first time at the request of one of my teachers (who tbqh did have mostly v cool taste) and know fundamentalist Christian couples who've been given their albums as baby placating sleepmusic

I mean, a lot of second-wave post-rock (if that’s what we’re calling it now) is only a small step away from film scores and New Age so it makes sense that it has popular appeal and crossover success. Not that that’s a bad thing.

Like, I get why people find this album boring and I get that it kind of is, but it has this earnestness to it that makes it hard for me to be cynical about it. This is obviously a distillation of what Sigur Ros/GY!BE were doing around the same time (albeit coming more directly from an indie rock lineage) and it’s certainly formulaic but like, they manage to nail that formula even if it inspired a bunch of lame imitators.

Did I bad mouth it? I just implied that New Age has more popular appeal and then immediately said that it wasn’t a bad thing.

I interpreted it as popular appeal isn't a bad thing. I'm just use to seeing new age bad mouthed that's all :]
