jeez still with this shit lol
Also - Chris Adler has had a bummer of a career lol still really interested to hear what went down with him. I knew it felt weird when he did that banger (i think) interview and they asked how he saw himself moving forward (irt megadeth and log), he said his dream was to play in megadeth and that's what he saw himself doing. But then he does the right thing for LoG, gets Dirk the job in 'deth and gets himself fired from LoG not long after lol.

Yeah, I certainly don't mean to beat a dead horse wrt what genre this band falls or fell under.
I have zero evidence to support this and am pulling it straight from my ass, but I think Randy's incarceration and trial put such a financial burden on the band that everyone apart from Adler essentially decided to stick to formula rather than innovate as a band because they needed the revenue stream and any departure from the established sound could put that at risk. That's not to say that the band was innovating prior to all that shit; their sound has always been fairly uniform but I know that Adler has always been a metal purist and was put off by the more melodic/bluesy approaches by Morton. At the end of the day, it's all creative differences; however, I cannot believe that Adler has struggled to find consistent work since leaving LoG and Megadeth. How he went from winning a fucking Grammy to working at Home Depot is crazy. But, steady employment and company-provided insurance does beat out touring 9 months out of the year followed by more album cycles.

I also know nothing and have always felt Mark getting his bluesy stuff in there more and more often resulted in diminishing quality. Each album has a couple absolute rippers, don't get me wrong, but nothing that touches Palaces or Ashes, or even Sacrament honestly.
I don't doubt the theory about his incarceration either. That really must have been brutal for them to finance.
And yeah no shade at all for working at Home Depot, family should always come first and honestly respect the hell out of him for doing that rather than filling in for every band that needs a drummer or starting a twitch stream or whatever.

And that legit could be why he's not playing anymore. One of those supremely talented dudes who reaches a point where chasing the dragon just isn't worth it anymore, especially if there's a chance for some stability and an opportunity to be home at a decent hour every day. Speaks more broadly to the economics of music in general too. There's just such limited ability to live comfortably off music sales and tours and the grind that comes with being a successful musician may not be a good ROI.

Nothing wrong with gainful employment, no matter what form it takes. He absolutely could still make a living through music though.

I imagine he does some garage band shit on the weekends. Just shows up with his neighbor buds and cranks out heel-toe runs like it's no one's business.

I would shit myself if I was in a guitar center and Chris Adler walked in tbh

ROI on herding cats trying to keep a garage band together is barely worth it; I can’t imagine the stress and margins at LoG’s level. Not surprised Adler peaced out of the biz entirely.

I think that's why Randy has been dipping into photography and writing so much. It's an effort to supplement what is probably a dire level of income.

I mean they are about as big as a metal band can be without ascending to Slipknot (and now I guess Ghost) levels. Pretty nearly sell out every time they're here. Randy might just be spending his free time with healthier habits these days lol. Don't think he's married or has kids does he?

So just based off Spotify monthly listeners: LoG has 2M monthly listeners, Gojira has 2.2M, TOOL has 4.8M, Ghost has 8M, Sleep Token has 8M, Slipknot has 14.5M, and Metallica has 27M.
That's not data you can necessarily extrapolate to other areas, but it's pretty eye-opening that a band with this sort of legacy is outpaced by a band like Slipknot 7x over.

Man. I fuckin hate Ghost. That's a rant for another thread I suppose. I'm not the least surprised about them being outpaced by slipknot.
IDK I'm honestly proud of Slipknot, I don't mind that despite whatever weird thing they have become. It still blows my mind how gnarly they were on that S/T, how poised they were for a big breakout if they put out a radio hit on the second album....and they came back with fucking IOWA, an absolutely savage, brutally unrelenting mess of a record (I mean this in an endearing way lol). idk why but I gained so much fucking respect for them for that, and ironically enjoyed their sellout album Vol 3 more than any before or subsequent.

Yeah, not trying to shit on Slipknot or anything as I'm a huge fan of the s/t, Iowa, and Vol. 3. It's just quite a feat to have garnered and maintained such a huge following while being such an odd-duck sort of band, especially within mainstream metal. But they are definitely lightning in a bottle since similar acts (Mushroomhead) have never attained that level of fandom and they've had a similar gimmick for years.

LoG with 2million monthly Spotify listeners is barely getting by? Hard to imagine imo. The lifestyle is taxing but at their level they're surely able to keep their heads well above water

Saw LoG with Mastodon last year when they played Ashes in its entirety. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. The energy and intensity was unparalleled. I don’t know how Randy does it still at his age (not that he’s elderly but dude does all sorts of crazy jumps, running around the stage etc).
It’s impressive that they still have such intensity and passion for songs they’ve played hundreds/thousands of times.

They are amazing live. Saw them in 2018 and it was one of the best live shows I've ever seen.
