On one demo cover he gives a FUCK OFF to "Eric & Eric" for being "peaceloving freaks" (among others), but like six or so years later he was wearing cat shirts and working to dispel the stereotype of death metal musicians/fans as hating life and animals and writing songs like Out of Touch and Misanthrope against extreme shock value gimmick metal bands and misanthropes respectively. He and Bill Andrews also talked about how Dark Angel were rockstar assholes when they toured with Death and aren't a professional band (particularly trashing Eric Meyer's guitar tone on Leave Scars), then like three years later when he mellowed out Gene Hoglan played on ITP and Symbolic.

1980s Florida death metal scene must've been crazy though, can't forget to understand the context of him saying some of those things. The fact that even then he said he wanted to make the band better and better shows how he would eventually transform the band with those later albums even then.
