The Crusade is Trivium’s way of throwing all of that potential into the nearest incinerator. The bottom line is that this is not what heavy metal is. Metal was a genre built on people who didn’t want to follow current trends, they wanted to break away and do what they love, even if no one looked twice at their music.

Hey! Someone negged the review! WHY GOD WHY!?!?!?!?!?! probably an offended fanboy. But this review is obviously well written if 54 out of 55 voters think so. And I feel it is well written and I am always right  another lame comment by wakeupdead ;)

Trivium isn't an awful band but it isn't great too. I think that it is an average band. So I voted 2.5 stars.
Some songs are clearly a Metallica ripoff. However, there are other songs that have more influences from other bands like Iron Maiden and Megadeth.
Matt Heafy voice isn't good. However, It sounds better than Hetfield's voice.
I didn't like ur review because u are more interested in attacking the band than critising their music.
And some of ur comments are really ridiculous:
"This World Can’t Tear Us Apart, which boils down to a Celine Dion hit single "
"Becoming the Dragon isn’t far off, as it strongly represents a sped up version of For Whom the Bell Tolls"
"And Sadness Will Seer, a horrid attempt at sorrowful aggression that comes out as a pure nu metal song" - u need to read a Nu Metal definition. There aren't Hip Hop/Rap influences in this song. Metallica is more Nu Metal than this song.
"they’re writing songs that aren’t metal at all" - I though u said trivium "mimic their beloved Metallica".

nu metal doesn't necesarrily need rap, look at system of a down, or slipknot even
I do enjoy this album, though it's nothing spectacular, there are some very good tracks

franklouuu makes some good points but... the album still sucks. As does Trivium. And on the Nu-Metal note, I think he's talking less about the actual music and more about the annoying, pathetically fake attempt at depression/angst that most bands in that genre attempt to capture.

Wow such variety.

It depends on how bias you are when reviewing.
This album is horrible though. Metallica is bad enough now as it is trying to get back to the old days, they don't need a copycat.

this album isnt as good as ascendancy but i still like it. they have much more growing up to in terms of songwriting, i think this album was too much influence-based but i think that their songwriting will get more well-rounded. i love their solos but at times i agree they are badly placed. right now i have this at a 4.5 but itll probably go to a 4 soon as the songs are loosing some of the replay value. awesome band live though, they know how to work the crowd and theyre much heavier too. once they look back at this album i think thyell understand what they must do on their next record, i cant wait
