New one isn't bad at all. May be by the numbers but it definitely doesn't suck. Also Dedes don't make me cry please lord, City Burials is soooooo bad. :[[[

i think the new one is more consistent but peaks lower than city burials but both wipe this away entirely

I actually prefer the new one to both this album and City Burials. Not exactly sure why, but it kinda feels more adventurous, if not by much? And the fact that the songs seem less cohesive and hooky isn't much of a drawback for me personally.

I'm not big on Birds, more so on Drab Moon and Sclera.

Also: City Burials < Nightmares < this imo. City feels like a lesser, uninspired version of TFOH and just plods most of the time, while this one feels focused and rather fresh.

i've always found this band really hit and miss for reasons i can't easily explain - i either vibe with an album or don't. i really love this one but i get absolutely nothing out of the new one or the fall of hearts at all. city burials is pretty good - a bit bland. dead end kings is probably my favourite.

it's weird cus on the surface they seem very similar but they either hit or they don't.

ive been running their discog a lot for kinda the first time really trying to get to know these albums and i feel you on that but like, with the opposite albums lol. outside of this record, i kinda struggle to get into dead end kings, but i thought the new album was cool and fall of hearts is my favorite

yeah that's what i find interesting - despite the albums being thematically very similar we've come to opposite conclusions. there'll be people ride-or-dying the new one for the same reasons i suppose.

i do think the new album is very far from fall of hearts in quality for me but i am surprised that i generally do enjoy it. probably ranks in the middle of their discog for me, i like it more than city burials

"yeah fuck this just bounces right off me every time i try and hit it."

It did that to me several times...right up until yesterday in fact. Was warming myself up for the new release and this one just clicked a lot better. I never disliked it, but I had it pegged as a solid step down from City Burials. Now it's only a smidge behind.
