Almost every song on M/M is at least a 4. To me, it might be their most CONSISTENT album (along with Vheissu).

just checked out Illusion for the first time. what a jarringly different sound from this even understanding it's nearly 2 decades old

Yeah lots of people love Illusion, but I think most of them started off there/have been listening to Thrice since the beginning.
It’s definitely good, but Artist is better, shows more growth, better songwriting and cohesiveness. And of course Vheissu was where they perfected that style imo — which I think is why they took a different turn with Alchemy Index. They knew they had perfected it, so doing it again would probably be boring for them.

I actually prefer M/M over Beggars, it feels a lot more dynamic to me. The highlights also hit much harder.

@outliers did you like it or will it take a few more listens to adjust to the difference?
@Pika, agreed. I love Beggars, but M/M is way more consistent and just has better songs, and the highs are higher. I’d say two songs off Beggars can match the best on M/M — The Weight And Circles. Still a 4 tho.

@Lark Didn't care much for it. It's not bad, but I've largely outgrown & overplayed that early 2000's emo sound. Wish I would have known about it 10+ years ago, I probably would have loved it then haha. I'm digging Vheissu so far though

You good, Larkin, ha.
I don't like to rank the alchemy indexes in the pairs, even tho they were released like that. I mean, technically, they did get their own discs, so why not think of them as their own individual release?
Artist=Water
Illusion=Vheissu=Beggars
Air
M/m
Fire=Earth
TBEITBN
Identity Crisis
Deeper Wells
Palms
I feel like I am forgetting something.

Yeah Vheissu is their best outliers but the albums after are great too.
Check out Artist sometime, it’s better than IOS for sure.

@ecz looks like you got it all to me.
Yeah I like the idea of ranking the AI’s separately. Just as far as those go:
Water (such a gorgeous and tranquil, serene album)
Fire (Firebreather is a top 5 Thrice song for me so that elevates this a lot for me)
Air (a few great songs, a few boring songs)
Earth (not my style. Well done but after a few listens, I felt done with it — bored me a bit)

Ecz, M/M is a bit low. Unacceptable.

I really like Earth. I can understand why ppl think it's boring but I have always enjoyed it, especially The Earth Isn't Humming.
Fire is good all the way through, but it is the only Alchemy for me that doesn't have at least one standout track on it.
M/m has some really choice songs, Promises, Words in the Water, and Listen Through Me specifically, but it also has Blur, and Blur kind of sucks.

Not even Firebreather? :O

If anything, Water's the one with no standout (for all the right reasons)

It’s called Firebreather. The Messenger is awesome too.
