@Pots: your opening comment was ‘in what year does metal plan on not being so painfully derivative’.
Notice how you said ‘metal’ like it was a general problem specific to the genre, that is what I took issue with. You criticised the broader genre, not just this album or band.

This is really consistent but maybe doesn’t take enough risks, feels pretty safe for a Slugdge album, guess they branched out a little with the last one & it wasn’t entirely successful (their weakest for me). It’s never going to top Gastronomicon, however it’s still a very nice addition to their discog. I wanted to sneak this into my top 10, think it will ultimately just fall short.

Gastro is great and have that classical opera tone going on, my second fave. Debut has a really murk vibe and ambiance. I d agree the previous is their weakest, mainly on the first few tracks, but it has his bangers. That said, production has allways been an issue by the way they did on previouses. Reminder that this one os the first on a propper lable. I actually don t think they re playing that safe, the songs are just better writen and production is just the best of them all. Also the climaxes on the album and tracks are better explored. That said, if you love metal just have to rip the shit out of the opener riffs, Crop killer post chorus, slave good world's ending, or the late progression on spectral Burrows and salt thrower.

Some utterly delicious riffing and a few great songs on here and I also am a fan of the ridiculous song titles and lyrics. However, the decision to have this album outstay its welcome to such a drastic degree is most bewildering to me. With some SERIOUS cropping this could’ve been great.

There are a couple of tracks I skip but overall this is insanely good. Can only imagine how nuts their next outing will be with a real drummer.
