it's funny you say that, because desperate living is the album i'm most familiar with. maybe somewhat structurally? even then i'm not hearing it much. each their own
at any rate, this talk of HORSE has got me to dig out my old cds and fall in love with them all over again lol. didn't hang on to a lot of post-hardcore from my highschool years, but them, fall of troy, and hot cross carried over to adulthood

HORSE is an all-time favorite. I know that DL is the concencus best and I agree, but don't sleep on R. Borlax or Mechanical Hand.

I prefer R. Borlax out of those two, but I think most people around here like Mechanical Hand better. Both are great. Let me know what you think if you decide to dig any deeper.

Imagine a KORG doing a few of those schmiddalies (ostinatos) instead of an axe...even a lot of the vocal deliveries are present. That's the only track that it's really apparent on, though. But, I love it.
Never have I listened to Converge and felt like I'm listening to someone else, they are always very their *own* thing. That track, though...don't know, HTB popped into my head within the first 30 seconds and never left. ::shrug::
If you only want to listen to a single area to really see what I'm saying (as obviously the opening 30 seconds didn't do it for you...ha) -- 3min30sec -- the closing group chorus with the aforementioned Strong Bad schmiddalies tied together with the locked in guitar/bass/drum rhythm.

Because everyone else is doing it & I'm a dirty conformist...
Jane > PTES = Axe > AWLWLB > YFM (redux) > No Heroes > WFCC > YFM (original) > Dusk > Halo
YFM is very low, hey maybe I'm not a conformist after all. Yeah, subtle & understated is not what I'm looking for in my Converge.

The first Converge album I've been able to get into. Great album.

'i can tell you about pain' is one of my fav things on this lol, no fuckin gay ass over 9000 death metal vox crusty riffs and all of that, simply ferocious metalcore about mental pain, just what the doctor ordered
